Genuine Essiac – Traditional 8-Herb Tea

Genuine Essiac – Traditional 8-Herb Tea

Eight carefully selected herbs, one traditional botanical blend.

Throughout my own wellness journey, I've developed a real interest in traditional herbal remedies, particularly those with a long history of use.

One that I've been interested in for quite some time is Essiac Tea.

I've recently started using Genuine Essiac's 8-Herb Tea, and I'm pleased to be able to share it with the Choose Yourself Daily community through my affiliate partnership.

What Is Essiac Tea?

Essiac is a herbal tea with roots in Canadian herbal traditions, made famous by nurse René Caisse in the early 20th century.

While traditional Essiac contains four herbs, Genuine Essiac offers an expanded formula containing eight botanical ingredients.

According to the manufacturer, the herbs are non-irradiated, pesticide-free and finely powdered for preparation.

The Eight Herbs

1. Burdock Root

Traditionally used in herbal medicine for digestive wellbeing. Burdock also contains naturally occurring antioxidant compounds.

2. Blessed Thistle

A bitter herb traditionally used to stimulate appetite and support digestion, particularly after meals.

3. Kelp

A natural marine source of iodine, an essential nutrient involved in normal thyroid hormone production.

4. Red Clover

Contains naturally occurring isoflavones, including genistein and formononetin. These plant compounds have attracted scientific interest for their biological activity, although their effects on hormone-sensitive conditions remain uncertain.

5. Sheep Sorrel (Including the Root)

A traditional component of Essiac preparations. Genuine Essiac specifically includes the root as part of its herbal formulation.

6. Slippery Elm Bark

Contains mucilage, a substance that forms a soothing gel when mixed with water. Traditionally used to soothe irritation of the digestive tract.

7. Turkish Rhubarb Root

Traditionally used in herbal medicine for its laxative properties and to promote bowel movements.

8. Watercress

A nutrient-rich leafy plant containing naturally occurring glucosinolates, which can form compounds called isothiocyanates. These compounds are being investigated for their biological properties.

My Personal Experience

I've recently introduced Genuine Essiac Tea into my own wellness routine.

Like many herbal preparations, it has quite a distinctive earthy taste, but I actually don't find it too bad!

I can drink it perfectly well on its own, although I've experimented with adding four drops of monk fruit extract to mine, which makes it a little more enjoyable.

And considering some of the things I've tried throughout my wellness journey, I can confidently say it's definitely not the worst thing I've ever tasted! 😊

For me, exploring traditional herbal products is part of continuing to learn, asking questions and making informed decisions about my own wellbeing.

A Note About Herbal Wellness

Traditional herbal use doesn't necessarily mean a product has been clinically proven to treat a particular health condition.

Although Essiac has a long history and has attracted interest in cancer-related research, there is currently insufficient reliable clinical evidence that it prevents, treats or cures cancer.

Some ingredients may also interact with medications or be unsuitable for certain health conditions. Seek professional advice before using Essiac, particularly if you have a medical condition or are undergoing treatment.
